icymi: this year we launched our eco warrior community initiatives fund (ewcif for short).

for years we’ve donated a portion of eco warrior coffee sales to people doing good things within the community. we’ve ramped it up even more & created the eco warrior community initiatives fund as a way to track donations & keep you updated on our progress. in a nutshell, the fund is about having a positive impact & giving back to the communities we work alongside. for more info, and to check out who we’re currently supporting, jump on over to the latest blog post.

throughout winter, we teamed up with StreetSmart Australia: an organisation supporting the vulnerable people in Aus currently experiencing homelessness or those who may be at risk.

we’re extremely proud to announce we were able to contribute a total of $573.73 through the fund & an extra $1390.38 in conjunction with our cafe partners through the CafeSmart initiative.

about streetsmart.

StreetSmart believe it‘s a basic human right that everyone should have a safe & secure place to call home. they know ending homelessness will take a whole community response so, through innovative campaigns, they enable & empower those communities to raise vital funds & awareness to bring about change for those experiencing homelessness.

they’re all about keeping it local: seeking out, supporting & partnering with small organisations and projects in the communities where the funds are raised. since they began in 2003 they’ve had a huge impact, distributing over $7.6 million in funds, supporting 714 grassroots organisations, donating more than 25K SleepSafe kits & providing almost 150K SmartMeals!

cafesmart 2021.

since 2014, we’ve been a proud roaster partner of StreetSmart’s CafeSmart initiative. CafeSmart is an opportunity for the coffee community to band together & help fight homelessness! the way it works is cafes sign up to participate & pledge to donate $1 to StreetSmart for every coffee they sell on the main day. cafes can also raise extra money through donation boxes & some go even further by selling yellow treats on the day & donating a portion of those sales too. staff get dressed up & decorate their cafes yellow….it’s a great industry wide event that we love to be part of each year!

after a tough 18 months for hospo, it was great to see people grabbing their morning coffee from our fave participating cafes. as part of our pledge as a roaster partner, we support cafes with free beans so even more dollars head towards helping the most vulnerable people in the local area where the funds were donated.

this year, much like last year, CafeSmart was unfortunately impacted by lockdowns in both VIC & QLD. but that still didn’t stop people from getting involved. for those in lockdowns who couldn’t make it to a participating cafe, they were able to donate the cost of a coffee via QR code donate pages as an added bonus this year.

after a few cafes closed at the last minute due to lockdown restrictions, we ended up with 5 awesome venues participating! qld: black lab coffee (tarragindi) & coffeemat (currumbin waters). vic: little lucky cafe (bacchus marsh). wa: lid espresso (subiaco) & riverside cafe (perth). these guys collectively raised a total of: $1390.38!

the legends at black lab coffee took out the top spot with a total donation of $458.65. great effort by all involved and we can’t wait to do it bigger & better next year!

last but not least, the biggest thanks of all goes to you guys, we absolutely couldn’t do it without you! we appreciate every single person who bought some eco warrior beans or merch over the past few months! or those who added a donation to their cart at the checkout. the ewcif wouldn’t be possible without all of our wonderful customers who get behind it, so thank you!

if you missed out but would still like to make a personal contribution to StreetSmart Australia or to learn more about the important work they’re doing, head on over to their website here.

this spring, we’re partnering with the climate council, to push for climate change action. they’re 100% independent & rely on donations to fund their critical research, campaigns & projects. you can read more about this on the blog here.
