arsosala: ethiopia
tastes like strawberry, raspberry & cacao
about me
A Natural Heirloom from Mr. Ocholo Bedecho and Arsosala washing station in Ethiopia. It’s giving a sweet, rich and syrupy espresso with flavours of strawberry, raspberry and cacao nibs.
Mr. Ocholo Bedecho owns 8 hectares of land in Oromia Regional State Guji Zone, located 12 km from small town called Haro Wachu. His farm is one of the largest in the district, with most of his income coming from coffee production. Mr. Ocholo has two daughters and six sons. Through coffee farming, he has managed to send all 8 to school, with the children helping out in the farm after school.
Many Ethiopian lots are traceable down to the washing station level. The Single Farmer Project is the result of an effort by Cafe Imports to support Ethiopian producers with a marketplace for farm-traceable coffees. “Our goal with this project would be to help garner and develop long-term relationships between the producers we are already working with and coffee roasting companies that share in the values of transparency, traceability, and relationship that this program represents,” – Claudia, green-coffee buyer for Cafe Imports.
Natural coffees are delivered to the station the day they’re harvested, and are first sorted for ripeness & quality before being rinsed clean of dirt. Then they’re spread on raised drying beds, where they’re rotated constantly throughout the drying process. Drying can take an average of 8–25 days, depending on the weather.
