Finca El Morito

FINCA EL MORITO

This unique microlot comes from José Roberto Monterroso’s award-winning El Morito estate in Las Flores, Jalapa. We cupped quite a few Guatemalan coffees but this one was a definite stand out with our team individually scoring it the highest on the table.

Finca El Morito is a 45 hectare farm located in the municipality of Mataquescuintla, Jalapa in southern Guatemala. José is extremely passionate about coffee and it shows in the quality of the green bean. He is continually experimenting with different varietals and processing methods on his farm in order to produce the best coffees he can.

Once the coffee is picked, it’s fully washed and naturally fermented for 15 hours. It’s then sun dried for about 10-15 days on outdoor patios. Rich with sweet aromatics and sparkling acidity. Its ripe nectarine flavours, with hints of honey and vanilla, produce a clean & balanced finish.

Blend Packaging

WE HAD A FACELIFT

We’re happy to announce we’ve updated our blend packaging. As well as the move to a more environmentally friendly printed bag, rather than a sticker, we’ve also scraped the yellow and changed the No 143 to a much sleeker navy. We’re super chuffed with the results and we can’t wait for you to see them…these babies will start rolling into stores this week!

Coffee Art Project

WE HAVE A WINNER

Huge congratulations to Michael Burns (VIC) who won the comp with his ‘old fellas enjoying a short black’ piece. Michael took home the awesome matte black La Marzocco Linea Mini and 6 month’s supply of Locale coffee worth a total of $5000!

The Locale Art Project was launched to encourage coffee lovers & aspiring artists around Australia to create their own work of art using nothing more than espresso coffee! Participating cafes across the country were stocked with kits containing paint brushes, parchment and of course…coffee shots!

The entrants each created an original masterpiece, snapped a pic & posted to their socials using the hashtag #localeartproject. Submissions were put before our judging panel with the finalists displayed in a series of exhibitions held in Perth, Sydney & Melbourne.

After touring the country, the original artworks were sold in an online charity auction. Together we raised $1,100 for CaféSmart, an initiative of StreetSmart, a charity supporting grassroots organisations working in the homelessness sector.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who purchased paintings, the brilliant artists who created them and of course, our awesome café partners who got behind this worthy cause – you guys are all ace!
